BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN THIN PLACE

I am getting very excited about going to Kanuga near Asheville, North Carolina in August to teach my course titled “Learning to See Creator in Creation”.  The five-day workshop is part of F.A.C.E – Faith, Art & Creative Expression. Held in the 1,400 acre Episcopal retreat center in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Kanuga has been described as a “thin” place there the veil between the finite and infinite is lessened.

ART JOURALS / PAINTED PRAYERS
We will create Art Journals, which I like to call Painted Prayers. We will  combine easily learned drawing, sketching, watercolors, poems, prayers and journal writing. The workshop is designed to open our eyes and hearts to create a connection and communion with pieces of nature and Creator.

Seeing deeply allows us to see into and beyond. Easily learned drawing, sketching and watercolor paintings can be an expression and revelation of those connections. The beauty of nature with its flowers, leaves, sticks, stones and other found objects will be used as inspiration.

Opening up eyes and hearts also allows words that express the depth of our soul to be combined with the images we create. Like all art that has deep personal meaning, it is the process of creating that opens us up.

SHARED CREATING
The course  will be taught by me and Kelly Larson. We too will be creating and sharing this journey.

Each morning the classes begin with Kelly leading an easy yoga prayer where we bring love and creativity into our hearts and the sweet cottage in the woods where our classroom is held in the holy embrace of trees and nature.

Kelly and I will share and show easily learned ways of making marks to create images of our deep seeing. Writing exercises will bring words to our experiences and expressions.

A DRAWING, DESIGN OR DOODLE A DAY – A MONTH ONLINE
In my preparations for “Learning to See Creator in Creation” I will be creating a drawing, design or doodle a day. These terms are used loosely because a drawing can be done with pencils, pens or paints.  A design can be a mandala or any shape.  And a doodle is an easy flow of making marks, usually on paper, with any kind of pencil, paint, ink or mark making material. Words will be part of these creations from time to time.

DAILY INSTAGRAM & WEEKLY BLOG
I will post the first Instagram* and Blog on Sunday July 15thand end this session on August 15th, a few days before I leave for North Carolina.  I will post each day’s creation on Instagram and and compile these in a weekly blog.  The weekly blog will include an audio-guided meditation and other inspirations.

JOIN US IN NORTH CAROLINA
The experience of being held in the embrace Kanuga feeds my soul. The energy of place and people is filled with light.  The blessing of hands in the opening service and the blessing of what we create at the end are so special.  The labyrinth near our classroom cottage is always open. There is singing and joy and a great bookshop. Other workshops are going on at the same time as part of the Faith, Art and Creative Expression conference. The energy of creative spirituality fills the air.

Here a link with more info about the workshops at  the F.A.C.E conference. And a link to register.

This year our classroom cottage workshop is larger, we can create more and more people can share in this creative journey. Please come and experience a communion of creativity. All are welcome.

ENJOY & CREATE

Note on the lily.  I picked this fragrant lily from my garden and each day created a different “Dance with the Divine” (see my blog about my earlier preparation for this workshop). I felt I was dancing, walking, stumbling along the edges. I created lines and colors of that experience. At times it was easy,  other times challenging and too often full of unnecessary judgement. It was the meditation of process that mattered. I had experience an edge of learning to see deeply.
