Art & Mandalas
Mandalas are my artistic passion and purpose. They came to me in the mid 2000s when I was at the place in my life where I had to create art or die. Of course that meant something inside would die, but I had to find a way to work with this urgent calling. I started creating mandalas, which are images in circular form. (Think flowers, snow flakes, pine cones when viewed from top down). Usually a mandala has a center point and has the impact of bringing people who create and view mandalas to their center and a place of wholeness and healing.
My mandalas. I began to doodle and paint mandalas and found a sense of creative outpouring and peace that I had not known before. Using flowers as my inspiration, I painted a series of fantasy flower mandalas and began photographing the amazing centers and radiating petals of mandala shaped flowers. Today I’m proud to say some of these photographs are in hospitals and medical clinics, hopefully working their healing magic on those who view them. These mandala paintings and mandala flower photographs can be seen on my website.
Workshop Teaching. I wanted others to experience the same creative outpouring and peace I found in creating mandalas. I developed a workshop called Morning Mandalas, Meditation & Journaling, Awakening Creativity through Mandalas. The workshop combines mandala making and art journaling with multiple art materials and art techniques. It is a way of making mandalas that is easy, fun, meaningful and easily done at home once the workshop is over. Guided meditations are part of it. And there is writing, sometimes on the mandala itself. Writing and art journaling help bring understanding and interpretation of the mandalas created.
Every person is a unique creative being, this workshop helps those who attend experience this and bring their creativity into expression. Morning Mandalas, Meditation & Journaling is a unique, fun and powerful way to learn about mandala making and art journaling and how these creative expressions enhance personal growth. Anyone can do it.
How it all started.I grew up with a mother, grandmother and aunts who gardened and created beauty through their sewing, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, crafts and amazing creativity. I followed in their footsteps and at their knees learned their skills. I feel their presence each day in my creative journey.
I studied art and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree, but never fully pursued an art career. My journey lead me to meditation and teaching meditation, working in advertising and marketing, a greeting card business, business school MBA, garden design, marriage and motherhood, although not in that order. All the while I continued to create art on my own and garden with a passion. I started a garden design business in 1992. Then in the mid 2000s mandalas and making mandala art became my artistic passion and the artist path I continue to travel on today.
