Mandala Beginnings – Children’s Art
November 30th, 2016
I was totally delighted when I walked into my daughter-in-law’s kindergarten and first grade classroom recently. There were beautiful mandalas hanging in the air.
The art teacher brought the beauty and power of circles to life in a unit on learning shapes. The children in several classrooms painted circle flower shapes that showed their amazing creativity. It rings so true when Picasso said, “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
I love the exuberant colors and strokes. The power of the circle shape shines through. Enjoy this gallery of mandala art.
The children were learning about other shapes too, including spirals, which is a spontaneous shape that gets expressed when I create mandalas. According to the symbolism of shapes, spirals speak to us about journeys that we take to learn life lessons. Here are the two spiral mandalas the children created.
May the journey for all these young artists allow them to freely express their amazing creativity always.
ENJOY AND CREATE.
