Shrinky Dinks Mandalas
July 22nd, 2015
I love creating mandalas on paper, but I also love putting these images on other surfaces.
Shrinky Dinks are a plastic that shrinks to 1/3 its original size when it is “baked” in the oven. There are different kinds of Shrinky Dinks, the one I used was for ink jet printers. Jpeg images can be arranged on an 8.5 x 11 inch format and then printed on a Shrinky Dink sheet.
The images are lightened by about 50% because when they shrink to 1/3 their size, the ink gets more condensed and brighter.
Each image is cut out, a hole punched, and the corners cut off. The back stays white unless colored pencil is used to give it color.
The cut out images are put onto brown paper bag on a cookie sheet, before they go into a 275 degree oven.
They are “baked” for about 5 minutes, and come out the finished size and colors.
When the Shrinky Dinks are in the oven, they curl up before flattening out at the end.
The details are clear and colors bright.
I’m going to use some for earrings and some for charms.
