Can We Speak in English Flowers – Old (1760s) and New (2017)
London to Missouri and Back. Coloring Book and Garden Visits
Total Solar Eclipse -In the recent mandala circle gathering we brought our awareness and creativity to this once in a lifetime event. All of us in the circle are fortunate to live in the area of the total solar eclipse.
I am working on a new practice, like the practice of yoga, meditation or prayer. It is the practice of becoming bilingual in the language of animacy.
Sacred Circle of Creativity – Sharing. A nurturing safe embracing place where a deep connection with our own personal truths and source is opened and expressed.
Today I finished planting my garden. It’s the last on the list of the many gardens I work in. Before digging in the dirt I took some mandala photos of the garden and flowers that touch my heart and share my time.
“Deep in their roots, all flowers keep the light.”
For those new to a month for mandalas – please open this link and read the beginning of blog which explains it all. This is the last in the 4 part series LIGHT.
The Light of Our Hearts. Our brightest light shines from our hearts.
“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou
There is light from within and light that shines upon us. Our light comes from deep within our soul, from the womb of our being
Sharing Truth Tea. How I can go forward. A Month for Mandalas. Truth in Kinship – Family, Friends, Community, Creation, Creator.
The joy of leading and teaching spiritual art workshops is mainly seeing the opening up and blossoming of each participant’s creative expression. This was especially true in August at Kanuga during the Faith, Art & Creative Expression Conference workshop.
It was some times hard to explain what the workshop was about. It was titled Creating Sacred Space In The Garden – Planting Prayers offered at Kanuga during the Faith, Art and Creative Expression conference in late August.
Spring is almost here. There are a few flowers blooming in St. Louis now. Their small flowers are a joy, but their small size sometimes isn’t enough.
A Month for Mandalas – Loving Water
Planting Mandalas, Mindfullness & Prayers – Connection to Creativity & Nature.
Each week is inspired by one of the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Water is this week’s inspiration.
Loving Fire – A Month For Mandalas. This is the third week of A Month for Mandalas – Session Two – Planting Mandalas, Mindfullness & Prayers – Connection to Creativity & Nature.
Loving Earth – A Month for Mandalas. The earth is our mother. It is our home, the home to all creatures who live on its surface. We are one with this earth. Planting Mandalas, Mindfullness & Prayers – Connection to Creativity & Nature.
Planting Mandalas, Mindfullness & Prayers – Connection to Creativity & Nature. This is the invitation and a beginning for A Month for Mandalas – Session 2. This blog explains what it is all about.
The last mandala circle get together was about an hour away at the home and prairie of Christine and Gary. The ten acres of restored and loved prairie and woods are called “Earth Mirrors”. It’s a mirror into the soul and long history of the land and those who care and cared for it.
I finished the crazy garden planting time a few weeks ago. Somehow in all the busyness surrounded by flowers, I didn’t make time to take photos. A few weeks ago, I took photos of what was blooming in my garden.
The mandalas I’ve recently created will be part of a larger series. The theme is “Hands of Energy Mandalas”. Just as each finger has its unique print, the unique energy of each person can be portrayed in their hands.
In years past I’ve received emails from the Missouri Botanical Gardens saying “the sacred lotus are blooming”. I haven’t seen the email yet this year. I hope it isn’t too late. Lotus is one of my favorite plants. Not only for its beauty, but for its spiritual meanings.
This is the last week of 100 Days for Mandalas – Session 5 – The Gifts of Our Soul. It is a time for reflection. A time to find the essence of the entire session. That essence is “I am” and “We are”.
Unleash your heart
Go deep within
Hear the beat of enough
“To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily, not to dare is to lose oneself.” Søren Kierkegaard. VULNERABLE & COURAGEOUS– These go hand in hand.
“The authentic self is the soul made visible” Sarah Ban Breathnach. One way I feel that connection is by looking and seeing nature…I now have a new way of looking with a smartphone, tablet camera app that lets me create mandalas with the camera.
Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
They somehow already know what you truly want to become.
Everything else is secondary. Steve Jobs
“Show up and be real”, part of the theme of Authentic Living, inspired a Mandala Mobile and other Mandalas during a Mandala Circle.
What feels authentic to me? Needing to play, express and go deep within. Needing to share those things with others. Mandalas and meditation are the vehicles that take me on that journey. A mandala is a sacred circle that embraces creativity. It can be any image within that sacred circle.
Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be.
As we journey through life there are helpers who are there for us. Some are people, some are angels in the real sense and other like angels. Inspiration and guidance come in many forms. Often a rock found along a path calls
Oh how I miss flowers and living colors this time of year. A few days ago with new snow on the ground I visited the wholesale flower district in St. Louis. I headed for the coolers full of flowers first.
This is week five of 100 Days for Mandalas. The theme for the last two weeks is “JOURNEY”. And boy what a journey this mandala took me to
My mandala was inspired by the theme of JOURNEY for this three week session. Walt Whitman’s words bring to mind the fact that each of us is on a journey that only we can make. Although others join us on our journey, it is ours alone.
My mandala was inspired by the words of Mary Oliver. Sometimes there is an ache in the heart for the beauty of this earth. It is almost too much. Not the violence, heartache, horror. But the beauty that is too much to take in. Sometimes it feels like my heart isn’t big enough to give the love it deserves.
Sharing of inspiration and creativity is what this blog is all about. I am always so thrilled to share the creativity of others. My monthly mandala circle get togethers are always a delight and amazement when other mandala makers create works of depth and beauty. Here are the first mandala sharings of this new year.
As I write this , it is almost 24 hours before the winter Solstice at 5:03 pm in St. Louis. When the Solstice takes place the axis of the earth is tilted so the north pole is furthest from the sun. Daylight is shortest for the year on this day. The journey to more light begins after this moment.
I never know how far the reach of my blogs is. I am always surprised and delighted when I hear from other mandala makers and creative folks…
This beautiful mandala by Corlita Bonnarens is the inspiration for this week’s mandala prompt. As we enter the middle of 100 Days for Mandalas (today is day 47), […]
Art Hill in St. Louis holds many memories for most of the region’s citizens. The sloping six acres of graceful lawn ends at the bottom of the hill where it meets the formal fountains of the grand basin at the foot of the St. Louis Art Museum. It is the perfect spot for a picnic […]
Last Weekend was the ending and non ending of the Sand Mandala for Peace created by the eight Tibetan Monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery in downtown St. Louis. The Mandala took five days to complete. The intricate and beautiful circular shape was build grain of […]
The Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery continue to create the sand Mandala for Peace in downtown St. Louis at Macrosun. The beauty of the mandala emerges as the Monks carefully place individual grains of colored sand into the […]
“When I touch a flower… I am touching infinity”, is the George Washington Carver quote in my garden. Seeing and touching the infinite in the mandala shape of a flower is what draws me to the garden.
